First Things First
As we stand at the threshold of a new year, it’s a natural time for reflection and anticipation. The recent sermon offered a profound reminder of the opportunities we have to embrace new beginnings and seek God’s vision for our lives. This dual focus invites us to not only welcome the fresh start that each new year brings but also to rise above the ordinary and align ourselves with God’s eternal perspective.
Embracing New Beginnings
Lamentations 3:22-23 beautifully captures the essence of God’s faithfulness: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” This scripture reassures us that each day is a gift filled with new mercies, fresh chances, and renewed hope. As we enter 2025, we are encouraged to let go of past regrets and allow God to write a new chapter in our lives.
C.S. Lewis wisely noted, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” This powerful statement challenges us to stop dwelling on past mistakes and instead focus on the future God has for us. Isaiah 43:18-19 further urges us to “forget the former things” and perceive the new things God is doing. It’s easy to get stuck in the past, but God is a “new thing doer,” always ready to lead us into fresh experiences and opportunities.
Seeking God’s Vision
Revelation 4:1 speaks of a door standing open in heaven, symbolizing God’s invitation to draw near and gain a heavenly perspective. This open door is an invitation to deeper intimacy and understanding, calling us to rise above the ordinary and seek God’s vision for our lives. As we enter 2025, this is a call to focus on the windshield of our lives, looking forward to where God is leading us rather than being trapped by the rearview mirror of past experiences.
The sermon emphasized the urgency of seeking God wholeheartedly, especially in these uncertain times. Participating in a week of prayer and fasting is an invitation to tune out distractions and align ourselves with God’s voice. Fasting helps us deny temporary pleasures and increases our sensitivity to the eternal. As we prepare for this time of seeking, let’s remember that God is more than able to guide us through whatever lies ahead.

As we embark on this journey into 2025, let’s commit to embracing new beginnings and seeking God’s vision for our lives. Spend time this week meditating on Lamentations 3:22-23 and Isaiah 43:18-19.
